A story that started 125 years ago...

History

The Barn is a culmination of time, talents, and love from the Mint Hill Community. It is our most fervent hope that The Barn will become a backdrop for our community's most special events.

A place to gather. A place to connect.

A place to feel a bit of history underneath your feet.

The History of The Barn

The Barn in the Carl J. McEwen Historic Village was originally erected near the village of Bellville, Ohio more than 125 years ago. It was constructed with mortise and tenon connections pegged with hand hewn wooden pegs into solid wood piles and beams.

The beams are beautiful elm, the rafters are red oak, and connections are both red and white oak. Farmers used whatever was available near the site and it was not uncommon for several types of wood to be used on a single barn.

Neighbors helped neighbors build. Barns were essential.

When The Barn arrived at the Carl J. McEwen Historic Village in 2020, volunteers got to work. The spirit of neighbors helping neighbors continued 125 years later.

The Vision for The Barn

Volunteers stained boards using 30 gallons of stain, nailed thousands of nails, and collectively spent too many hours to count making this barn a special place.  It is now an urban chic gem. Adorned with a handmade iron chandelier, sliding barn doors, and beautiful heart pine pegged beams.

The spacious wedding venue area is also available for corporate events and private parties. Paired with The Village, the opportunities for an unforgettable event are endless.

The Barn features the finest quality catering kitchen complete with stainless steel prep tables, a dishwasher, commercial refrigerator and freezer, and a rolling warmer. Enjoy two handmade rolling stand up bars.

Wander outside to enjoy The Village and The Barley Bin Bar.
